Computer Help
Some are knowledgable and some are not!! Here is a
compilation of tips given to Vonda's Vine by some of the members ... Barbara,
Kitty, etc. As with all the info in the web site ... this area would not
be possible without the creativity and generosity of those sharing!
Printing Part of a Web Page
To print just part of any web page, use your mouse to select the text you want
to print. (Select the text by clicking at the beginning of the text, and hold
your left mouse button down while you drag the mouse across the desired text.)
In Internet Explorer, you can then right-click on the page and select Print
from the small menu that appears. (Optionally, you can click File, then choose
print from the menu.) Then in the Print Range part of the Print dialog box,
choose Selection by clicking on the "radio button" next to the word.
Finally, click OK, and your selected text will print.
Bold (using Yahoo Mail)
Using Yahoo Mail, be sure to click the link that says Switch to Formatted
Version (it's right beneath the "Save copy of outgoing message. .
." line). Then your message will open in a dialog box that looks a little
like what you may be familiar with for Word. There's an icon on the toolbar just
above your message that says B. Highlight the information that
you want bolded, then click on the B.
Hyperlinks (using Yahoo Mail)
Be sure you are using the Formatted Version of Yahoo Mail. (See tip above) To
insert a hyperlink into a Yahoo Mail message, simply type the website address,
followed by a space or other punctuation (like a period or comma). . . like this
http://www.listen.org. This also works with
e-mail addresses like this barbara_nixon@yahoo.com.
Yahoo will automatically turn it into a hyperlink. (NOTE: This tip also works
for other e-mail programs, like Outlook.)
Whether the recipient actually SEES the hyperlink depends on which e-mail
program he or she is using
Printing Bookmarks from Internet Explorer
To print a listing of your favorites in Internet Explorer, export your
Favorites to an .htm file, and then print the .htm file. To do this, follow
these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Internet
Explorer.
- On the File menu, click Import and Export.
- In the Import/Export Wizard, click Next.
- Click Export Favorites, and then click Next.
- Click Favorites, and then click Next.
- Click Export to a File or Address, type c:\bookmark.htm in
the Export to a File or Address box, and then click Next.
- Click Finish, and then click OK.
- Quit Internet Explorer.
- Double-click My Computer, double-click drive C, and then
double-click the Bookmark.htm file.
- On the File menu, click Print, click to select the Print
table of links (to see the http:// addresses of each, along with just
list of the names of each site) check box, and then click OK.
NOTE: If you do not want the printed listing to contain the Uniform
Resource Locator (URL) for each link, click to clear the Print table of
links check box.
- Quit Internet Explorer.
Sorting Favorites in Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer 5, Windows 98 Second Edition
To sort the Programs, Documents, or Favorites menus, right-click any item in
the menu, and then click Sort by Name.
This arranges the items in this menu in the default alphabetical order.
To use the keyboard to Sort by Name:
- Use the cursor key to highlight any item on the menu you wish to sort.
- Press SHIFT+F10 to view the Context menu.
- Use the DOWN ARROW or UP ARROW keys to select Sort By Name, and
then press ENTER.
Copying graphics from a website
These
directions assume you use Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word:
If you ever need to copy a graphic from a website to insert into a Microsoft
Word document, here’s how. Right-click on the graphic with your mouse.
Choose copy. Go to your Word document. Right-click and choose paste. That’s
all there is to it! (NOTE: Be sure that you are not violating anyone’s
copyright by taking the graphics for your own profit)

Making X-press Work For You
by
Laura H.
The reports I print out from X-press for each show are the
following:
For Me: Guest Purchases Report (then I don't need a copy
of each guest order form)
Show Summary Report (Associate) (may need to zoom in to 80% to
get it all on one page)
For Host: Guest Purchases Report (be sure to select
2--one for each of you when printing, once you close the report you
have to go back in to print another)
Show Summary Report (Hostess)
Guest Order Forms (I give a copy of these to the hostess to
include with the products when delivered. Also write thank you or stamp
something cute on each one)
Hostess Savings Report (copy this on bright colored paper!)
I set up a "group" in X-press to select the reports I
use for each show. I also have a group set up for when I am the hostess,
since then I don't need the Show Summary Report for Hostess or the Hostess
Savings Report. Hope this makes sense.
Then, to answer your next question, I file all my shows by
month. It has worked well for me for over 6 years. Some people
file by hostess, but that would mean a lot of folders. This is 12
folders a year.
About giving gifts for catalog show hostesses, yes, I always
give them something too, which I enclose with their paperwork from their show
and their thank you note. It can be anything from a flat ornament
to post it notes with a holder and a pen, or a magnet, etc. The jar
mixes that I've given out for home show hostesses haven't been shipped to
catalog show hostesses, but I've been trying to find things that relate to the
current season or promotion.
Hope this helps you out! There are so many wonderful
things you can do with X-xpress!
How To
Make The Symbols
If you have been wondering how to make the
trademark symbol:
IN
WORD:
Type the name of company, then go to INSERT
options, symbols, and you'll find your little R, the C, etc. Once
I've done it, then I highlight it, do a Control C to copy it. Then when I
bring it up again later in the newsletter, I do a Control V and place it
right where it needs to go. Have fun! - Wilma
If you
use Word, go to your top tool bar and click on "Insert"
"Symbol"
"Special Characters"
highlight the registered symbol
Insert and
Close and it will print on the
page
In Microsoft Word 97, you can go to Insert --> Symbols --> Special
Characters and select
the symbol you need. Or I
think for the one you want press: Alt+Ctrl+R (registered trademark)
Put the cursor on the screen where you want it to appear, go to the
top of the screen and click on INSERT, then click on SYMBOL, second row
from the bottom, bottom right hand corner you'll see it, click on it and
then click on insert. If you want it to also be slightly raised
above the other text,
highlight it, go to the top of the screen and click on FORMAT, and then
click on FONT, under Effects click on SUPERSCRIPT! And there you
have it.
I have Word 97 which has the option of Insert, Symbol and you can
choose it from a graph of symbols. But if you don't have that simply
type ALT 0174. That means hold down the ALT key and then type the
number 0174. That should give you the ANSI character ®.
Try Control/Alt/r all at the same time for the ®
and control/Alt/c for © and control/alt/t T. That is for a
Microsoft word document.
To do it in e-mail try Alt 0174 for ®, Alt 0153 for T and Alt 0169 for ©.
Be sure you use the numerical keypad for those numbers.
